PERSONAL WATERCRAFT REGULATIONS

EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS
- Each person on board the personal watercraft must wear a personal flotation devise that is no an inflatable.
- Each person 12 years of age or older, riding or being towed, must wear a type I, type II, or type III personal flotation device.
- Each person less than 12 years of age, riding or being towed, must wear a type I, or type II personal flotation device.
- A Lanyard-type engine cutoff switch must be attached to the person, clothing or personal flotation device. The manufacturer must equip the lanyard for the engine.
- Each personal watercraft must be equipped with one B1 type fire extinguisher.

AGE REQUIREMENTS
- A person shall not operate a personal watercraft if a child under 7 years of age is on a board or towed unless with a parent or guardian or designee of parent or guardian.
- A person under the age of 14 shall not operate a personal watercraft in the State of Michigan.
- A person who is 12 or more and less than 14 years of age may use a personal watercraft on the waters of the State of Michigan if all of the foling circumstances exist: 1. The person is accompained solely by the person's parent or legal guardian. 2. Both the person and parent or legal guardian have obtained a boating safety certificate.

BOAT REGULATIONS AND SAFETY RULES
- BOATS MUST BE OPERATED IN A COUNTER-CLOCKWISE MANNER.
- Maximum speed limit is now 55 miles per hour on all lakes.
- Motorboats, sailboats and rowboats 16 feet or more in length must have one Coast Guard Approved Life Jacket aboard for each person, and one throw able (TYPE IV) flotation device aboard.
- Proof of registration must be kept on board the vessel any time that it is being operated.
- Anyone 12 to 16 years of age must carry their Boat Safety Certificate if they are operating a motorboat powered by six or more H.P..
- ALL motorboats operated between sunset ans sunrise must exhibit one white light aft, and a combination green and red light on the bow.
- Register ALL motorboats of any length and sailboats 12 feet or more in length, and display numbers on your boat as required by Michigan Law.
- Don't operate any motorized boat within 100 feet of any swimmer, rowboat, sailboat or raft except at a SLOW, NO WAKE speed.
- Don't sit on the back of seats, or stand, while operating a motorboat above a slow, no wake speed.
- Don't operate any boat within 100 feet of a diver's flag at any speed unless you are tending the diving operation.
- Motorboats must always give sailboats, canoes, or rowboats the right of way.
